US Army 113th Military Intelligence Group Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description/Blazon A gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall consisting of two vertical daggers, that on the left point up and other point down, hilts red, blades gray, entwined by an oriental blue scroll looped across the daggers in a simulated "3" bearing an inscription in gold letters upon the upper arc "VIGILANCE" and upon the lower arc "SECURITY" all in front of a gold demi-sun radiant with five straight rays extending to the top and sides of the device.

Symbolism The colors oriental blue and silver gray are for Military Intelligence. The gold sun, indicative of wisdom and alertness, also connotes provision of leadership and guidance. The five rays refer to the five regions under the Group's direction. The gray daggers with red hilts allude to both the aggressive and the protective capabilities of the unit. Their partial concealment by the entwined motto scroll denotes the requirement for secrecy in performance of the organization's mission. In addition, the two vertical daggers, together with the scroll which simulates the numeral "3," refer to the numerical designation of the Group.

Background The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 2 January 1969.
